A friendship built on faith, trust, and advocacy

For Pastor Paul L. Kelly of Greater Little Rock Baptist Church, meeting Crawford through Citizen Advocacy was the beginning of a lasting friendship. A shared love of sports and Crawford’s gift for making people laugh helped the two connect from their very first meeting.
Over the years, their friendship has grown through lunches, church services, errands, and time together in the community. Crawford calls Pastor Kelly his “brother”—a word that speaks to the closeness they share.
The value of showing up
Pastor Kelly makes time for Crawford alongside the responsibilities of pastoral ministry and community leadership. To him, reliability matters: showing up, keeping promises, and being consistent help a friendship grow.
“Advocacy comes from caring,” Pastor Kelly explained. “When you genuinely care about someone, you make the commitment to be there for them.”
Crawford brings his own warmth and humor to the relationship. “Making people smile is what I do,” he says. “It’s just who I am.” He enjoys being part of church life and sharing a good meal.
Their story reflects the heart of Citizen Advocacy: a personal commitment to stand by another person, recognize what they bring to the community, and make room for friendship in everyday life.
